THE first 150 mega watts (MW) of Maamba Collieries coal fired power plant has been synchronised with the national grid.
According to an update from ZCCM-IH which owns 35 percent of Maamba Collieries, the synchronisation took place last weekend.
The company reported that turbine 1 was rolled and the generator open circuit, short circuit, excitation system tests were also conducted.
“We are pleased to inform you that Unit 1 (150MW) of Maamba Collieries coal fired power plant was synchronized with the national grid yesterday, Sunday, 24 July 2016, at 12.57 hrs successfully,” read the update.
Meanwhile, Zesco spokesperson Henry Kapata said Itezhi-Tezhi dam was generating power at full capacity of 120 MW.
“We are producing at full capacity at Itezhi-Tezhi at 120MW, the Itezhi-Tezhi dam is one dam that is even Kafue gorge was dependent on but now there is a power plant there.
Recently, Zesco reported that the construction of the Itezhi Tezhi 220 kilovolts transmission line for evacuation of power to the national rid had already been completed.
Mr Kapata said there was massive progress at the Itezhi Tezhi 220 kilovolts transmission which would enable the surrounding areas have access to electricity.
“I must say that there is massive progress at the Itezhi Tezhi because the 220 kilovolts transmission line for evacuation of power to the national grid has already been completed.
“It has also been energised and so overall construction of the power plant is about 94 percent complete,” he said.
