He may be not known on the local entertainment front but young Benas Banda is headed for international fame following his victory on the MultiChoice-sponsored search for Zed Top Ten presenter competition on Wednesday at The Web in Lusaka.
This event was held as part of the celebration to mark Zambezi Magic Channel 160’s first birthday.
An overwhelmed Banda who is a third-year student of Demography at the University of Zambia was announced winner of the competition which initially attracted thousands of contenders that were eventually shortlisted to five. He beat four other competitors among them Radio Phoenix presenter Roxy Jones and Drimz’ manager Ezra Blackson. The other two are Petronella Chanda and Taonga Kaonga.
This victory comes with a K50, 000 prize money and a contract with Zambezi Magic.
“I am very humbled. This victory for me comes after a time I lost UNZASU elections twice last year. So, I feel this victory for me is an assurance from God that he still loves me and He will never forsake me. For Zambia, at large, this is about me putting my country on the map. Representing Zambia at a bigger platform,” said Banda in an interview shortly after receiving his prize at a colourful ceremony that was characterised by music performances from Zambia’s top local stars.
