Doom-sayers doomed, says Church

THERE is no need for Zambians to panic during the election period because the elections will be peaceful, credible, free and fair, Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) executive director Pukuta Mwanza has said.

He dismissed fears that next month’s general elections would be characterised by violence, saying the elections would go well.

Reverend Mwanza said the church was convinced that the elections would be free and fair and urged Zambians not to panic but continue to pray so that no misfortune visits the country.

“We have prayed to God and he has taken over. There is going to be peace before, during and after the elections. People should not have anxiety of what will happen to the losing candidate. We strongly feel that God is in control and there should be no fear of any form of violence.

He said the Church would continue praying against all forms of violence during the polls.

“It is not the first time that the country is holding elections, we have been through this before. All we need to do is to be prayerful and as always, the Church is praying for peace,” he said.

Rev Mwanza said there was need for people to have confidence in ECZ, saying that the commission had proved to be a credible institution.

“There is no reason why the results should be doubted. ECZ has done well in as far as engaging stakeholders is concerned. They have shown to be a very credible institution.
