ahead of polls THE Egyptian government has pledged to assist the Zambian government through the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) with resources needed to deliver successful elections next week.
Egyptian ambassador Ragai Nasr said the two countries enjoyed ‘‘wonderful’’ bilateral relations, hence his government’s decision to help ECZ in its operations.
Mr Nasr, who presented information communication technology (ICT) assorted equipment to ECZ on behalf of the Egyptian government, said the donation was just the beginning of helping the Commission.
“We in Egypt appreciate the strong bilateral relations that we have with most African countries especially Zambia,” Mr Nasr said.
He said Egypt was proud of Zambia’s history of holding peaceful elections.
Mr Nasr said that Egypt was looking forward to deepening the bilateral relations between Zambia and Egypt.
“We are willing to help the Electoral Commission of Zambia more in future,” he said.
And ECZ chairperson Mr Justice Esau Chulu said the IT equipment would go a long way in assisting the operations of the commission ahead of the general elections.
Justice Chulu said the equipment would be used for training.
“The donation we have received today, I can assure you that will go a long way in our training programmes and also build on our current resources,” he said.
He also implored ECZ members of staff who were present during the donation to look after the equipment and put them to good use.
