THE Basic Teachers Union of Zambia (BETUZ) general secretary, Jeffrey Simuntala, says teachers’ unions are happy with the developmental agenda of the PF government.
Mr Simuntala said the teaching fraternity has high expectations and was hoping that Government would address other challenges they faced, such as inadequate teaching materials in schools.
He said there was need for Government to prioritise recruitment of more teachers and commended Government’s infrastructure development in rural areas and called for more investment in the sector.
Mr. Simuntala said this included the recent recruitment of teachers and that more training should be done as the country pursued quality education.
The teacher’s union has congratulated President Lungu and the Patriotic Front for retaining power and has also praised Zambia’s democratic credentials and the peaceful voting that characterised the general election.
And Mr Simuntala urged teachers across the country to embrace the One Zambia, One Nation slogan.
Mr Simuntala congratulated Zambians on voting peacefully and said there was need to move on as a country and embrace each other.
He said teachers should continue with their hard work and also embrace each other despite political affiliation and avoid being involved in partisan politics.
‘‘Teachers will be posted everywhere in all parts of the country, others will be in Northern, Southern and Western provinces for work. So the idea of One Zambia, One Nation slogan should be embraced,’’ said Simuntala.
