GOVERNMENT should expedite the construction of modern fire stations in all the 10 provinces and has procured 42 fire tenders to ensure the growth of the fire service in the country, says Fire Services Union of Zambia general secretary Clement Mulenga.
The union has since joined the rest of the country in congratulating President Edgar Lungu on his re-election.
Mr Mulenga said the union believed that the victory was a result of the confidence that people of Zambia have in his leadership.
Mr Mulenga said by giving the PF government another five-year mandate would ensure continuity.
He said the Government were developing a fire policy and wanted to turn the fire section into a department as well as embarking on the construction of 10 modern fire stations in each province.
The Government was building a modern fire training school in Kabwe and had procured 42 new fire tenders which were in transit, he said.
Mr Mulenga appealed to Government to recruit fire fighters country wide as there was a deficit of over 100 officers.
‘’As a union, we shall continue to work and engage Government on issues affecting the fire services to promote industrial harmony and safety of our national resources.
‘‘We wish President Lungu God’s wisdom and protection in order for him to steer this great nation into prosperity,’’ he said
