STRIKER Lewis Macha has been ruled out of the Chipolopolo squad facing Kenya in tomorrow’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier due to injury.
Speaking after the team’s training session at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola yesterday, Dr George Magwende said coach George Lwandamina was advised not to mount pressure on Macha who sustained a swollen ankle to allow for complete recovery.
Magwende said Macha could not have performed to the best of his ability and that would have delayed the recovery.
“Macha is still nursing the swollen ankle and will not feature for Sunday’s match. We advised the coach not to put pressure on that injury so that the recovery is complete because he will not get the best out of the boy,” he said.
Meanwhile, Simon Silwimba who was nursing a knee injury after clashing with Fackson Kapumbu during training on Wednesday has been cleared.
Magwende said Silwimba was fit to feature in tomorrow’s game while Jackson Mwanza was doing better and may also play.
“Silwimba is fit to play. Mwanza is much better now and mending positively, he is likely to be in form before the match on Sunday,” he said.
Lwandamina will now bank on two strikers Winston Kalengo and Jackson Mwanza to lead the frontline.
Kenya arrived on Thursday in Ndola and warned of victory.
“We have come here for a win. Our fans were disappointed when we failed to qualify for the tournament. This will be a consolation,” coach Stanley Okumbi. The two teams will clash in a game of “pride” in Ndola after both teams failed to book a place in the 2017 AfCON finals slated for Gabon.
