PF officials’ houses burnt in Itezhi Tezhi

SUSPECTED UPND supporters have burnt down houses belonging to Patriotic Front (PF) Banamwaze ward councillor David Chizawu and Makunku ward zone 3 campaign manager Harry Nabaluba in Itezhi-Tezhi in the latest incident of political violence.

Former area Member of Parliament Greyford Monde and Chief Chilyabufu have confirmed the burning of two houses in a space one week in Itezhi-Tezhi.

Mr Monde said Mr Nabaluba, whose house was set ablaze last week, was reportedly on the run, hiding together with his family for fear of being killed by the cadres who burnt their house and that nobody knows they gone into hiding.

And Chief Chilyabufu has since asked the Police to beef up manpower in the area to quell any further acts of lawlessness.

Narrating the ordeal to the Daily Nation yesterday, Mr. Chizawu said unknown people burnt his house on Tuesday around 02:00 hours and destroyed his motorbike which was parked outside the house, two hours after they invaded his courtyard and threatened to kill him. He said the suspected UPND cadres initially went to his house on Monday around midnight and asked him to come out of the house, threatening that they wanted to sort him out because he was a known PF cadre. Mr Chizawu said he decided to remain in the house for fear of being attacked. The assailants started banging on the door with a view to breaking it.

He said after they failed to break the door they left his yard for about two hours and later went back to torch one of his grass-thatched houses and smashed his motorbike which was within the yard.
