FIFTEEN bodybuilders have intensified training in readiness for the 2016 Mr Kanyama bodybuilding contest on October 8 at Carousel Shopping Centre in Lusaka.

Kanyama Gym proprietor Llody Kyusa said the morale among the bodybuilders was high and anticipated a tough competition.

Kyusa said the number of participating musclemen was likely to increase to 19 before the end of this month. “We have 15 bodybuilders that have confirmed participation. Preparations have intensified and the level of fitness is impressive. I have no doubt the competition will be stiff,” he said. He said 20 percent of the total budget required to successfully host the event had been raised. “We have raised about K20, 000 of the total budget of K100, 000 needed to stage the event. I am confident that the deficit will be raised before October 8. The number of companies that have pledged to support the event is overwhelming and I am sure they will honour it. ‘‘Among the companies to support the event include Madmax Auto Spares, O.D. General Dealers, K.D.W and Transport, Rowlee Company Limited, Silavwe Motors and General Dealers and Fedrol Cargo and Logistics,” he said.

Kyusa however announced that the current champion Gift Kalunga will not defend the title because he was not in shape.

“The 2015 champion Kalunga is not contesting this year’s tournament. But former champion Richard Kawama and tough tested Aaron Soko are among the 15 that are eyeing the title,’’  he said.
