THE Taekwondo Association of Zambia (TAZ) is appealing for material and financial assistance to adequately run the sport.
TAZ president Likando Nangonde said the association has witnessed increased participation from boys and girls but were demotivated by lack of proper sporting equipment and exposure.
“The sport is growing and one can see the enthusiasm and commitment among the junior athletes. We have received increased participation especially in the U-15 Samsung Sports Challenge League. The talent is enormous but cannot be enhanced due to inadequate funds.
‘‘I am appealing to well-wishers, the corporate world, to assist the talented boys and girls nurture into medal winners. Taekwondo is an Olympic sport and hence the athletes require standard equipment,” he said.
He said the association will continue to encourage more girls to take up the sport.
Nangonde said girls were vital in the development of sports in Zambia.
“As an association, we believe the girls have the potential to bring glory to Zambia if nurtured well. Our target is to have more girls participate in Taekwondo,” he said.
