My life in danger -Canisius

UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) vice-president for politics Dr. Canisius Banda has disclosed that some people within UPND have been threatening to harm him after they organised his eviction from a rented house in Presidential Housing Initiative (PHI) area.

And Dr. Banda has also charged that no single individual owns the UPND because it was registered as a public entity under the Zambia Registrar of Society and records were there to show.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Nation, Dr. Banda also disclosed that people inside the UPND worked to harass him leading to his eviction.

Dr. Banda said he had since asked President Edgar Lungu to protect him as a citizen following threats issued on his life by some people within the party.

Dr. Banda was also quick to mention that despite receiving threats on his life by his colleagues in the party, he was also safe in the hands of God.

“I am aware that there are people within (UPND) that see me as a danger in their presidential ambitions.

“I am also aware that not everybody that smiles at me in the UPND means well and I know them,” Dr. Banda said.

He said he decided to stick around in the UPND not because there was heaven, adding that he suffered a lot for the party.

“I have sacrificed a lot for the UPND and suffered to ensure that one Hakainde Hichilema is marketed, supported and that the party grows,” Dr. Banda said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Banda said no single individual owned the UPND including Mr Hakainde Hichilema. Dr. Banda said even Mr Hichilema drew his strength from the members of the party and needed to move with them and consult them.

“I spoke to President Lungu two days ago and he expressed concerns about those calling for a revolution and I assured him (Lungu) that I will play my part to ensure that there is calmness, peace, unity and non-violence because the country needs to unite,” he said.

“I told him that the authority you (Lungu) have on behalf of Zambians, is from God so listen to the people always because the voice of the people is the voice of God,” Dr. Banda said.
