UTH, Medical Stores bosses fired?


Unconfirmed reports suggest that the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) senior medical superintendent Dr Ben Chirwa has beem relieved of his duties. Sources within the Ministry of Health have also  revealed that Medical Stores Limited (MSL) managing director Dr Boniface Fundafunda  has also been

removed with immediate effect. The decisions have been made in the spirit of restructuring the operations and service delivery of both UTH and Medical Stores Limited. Sources within the Ministry disclosed that the Minister of Health Dr Chitali Chilufya decided to fire the two managing director and replaced immediately in a bid to restructure the operations of the two institutions. There are a lot of changes that the Ministry would be undertaking especially at the University Teaching Hospital in order to improve its operations and service delivery. A check by the to the Daily Nation at the Medical Stores yesterday found a Dr Aven Muvwende acting as Managing director. He told our reporter that Dr Fundafunda was currently out of the country. And when contacted Dr Chirwa  refused to give a comment referring  all  questions to the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health Dr Peter Mwaba. “I cannot give details, please get in touch with the PS in the Ministry of Health,” Dr Chirwa said. And a sectary at the medical stores refused a reporter from interviewing the acting managing director by claiming at that he was in a meeting after earlier saying the acting managing director had gone for a meeting at the Ministry of Health. Both Minister and his Permanent Secretary Dr Peter Mwaba could neither deny nor confirm the development as their mobile phones went answered by press time.
