‘Observe electoral code of conduct’

THE Electoral Commissioner of Zambia (ECZ) in Mushindamo district has urged stakeholders in the area to adhere to the electoral code of conduct ahead of the local government by-election in the district. ECZ has set 17 November 2016 as polling day for both Mushindamo and Kalumbila districts local government by-elections for council chairmen respectively. Speaking at a briefing for candidates, political parties and observers at Kasapa Primary School, electoral officer Samuel Musonda said there was need for stakeholders to adhere to the electoral code of conduct. Mr Musonda said the electoral code of conduct was clear on how stakeholders such as political parties, candidates and observers should conduct themselves ‘‘We expect all players to operate and conduct themselves within the confines of the electoral rules. The electoral code of conduct is very clear on how all electoral stakeholders are supposed to conduct themselves in an electoral process,” he said. He also called on the media to be truthful in their reporting, adding that the media played a big role in informing the public on what was obtaining on the ground.
