CONSTRUCTION works on the Solwezi-Chingola road have resumed after Buildcon Investment workers resumed work following a wage dispute. Works came to standstill after workers downed tools last week demanding to be paid their three month’s salary arrears. A check by the Daily Nation yesterday found the workers back on site and works going on smoothly on the 40-km stretch. Buildcon site agent Sued Abdelkadir said that so far the contractor had done 20 km works on the project which should be completed by mid-November and opened for use. Mr Abdelkadir however said the works were moving at a slow pace due to late funding from Government. “We have a challenge in terms of funding which has limited activities on the project,” he said. He was however said the contractor was using company funds so that works could continue. He also said the contractor was within schedule and that the firm was committed to complete the project within the time frame. “Despite the challenge of funding, we are expected to complete this whole project by June next year,’’ he said. And Mushindamo district commissioner Benson Ngambo has expressed happiness with the works being done by the contractor. Mr Ngambo, who inspected the works on Lot 2, said the road was of high quality. “Let me take this opportunity to appreciate the contractor Buildcon for the good works being done on this road. I can say as Government we are happy with the type of works being done here,” he said. He said the road was an economic one, hence Government’s commitment in ensuring that it was completed on time. He urged members of the public to exercise patience as the road was being worked on.
