‘My husband wanted to use me for sex while on separation’

A 23-YEAR-OLD woman narrated before a Local Court in Lusaka that her husband had no intention of getting her back but just wanted to use her for sex. This is in a case in which Agnes Mwale of Kanyama compound sued her husband, Edward Mwansa, 25, for reconciliation. The two got married in 2009 and have three children. Mwale told Senior Court Magistrate Lewis Mumba sitting with Magistrate Abbishine Michelo at Kanyama Local Court that in June 2015, they differed with Mwansa when he was talking to a girlfriend on phone and he beat her. Mwale further said that Mwansa was detained after she reported him to police for assault, adding that when they sat, he decided to end the marriage. “Mwansa had no intentions of getting me back but wanted to use me for sex and he did so on three occasions he called me. I decided to come to court because one year and four months separation is just too much,” said Mwale. In defence, Mwansa said that he still loved Mwale and that in June 2015 he complained to her that his relatives were not visiting them because of her attitude. He explained that at night when his female boss called him, Mwale thought it was a girlfriend and she wanted to break his phone. Mwansa further told the court that Mwale got a saw and attempted to cut him. He then slapped her, adding that she also wanted to hit him with a bottle. Mwansa further said that Mwale was taken to her parents by his sisters the following day. “I love Mwale but I want her to change for the better when she comes back home,” said Mwansa. Magistrate Mumba said that there was lack of communication and advised the couple to sit down by involving families from both sides. He gave the couple two weeks within which to resolve their differences.
