A 40-YEAR-OLD woman has dragged her husband to court for divorce on allegation that he has denied her conjugal rights for two years. This is in a case in which Lister Soyasi of Lusaka West sued her husband, Mathew Tembo for divorce. The two got married in 1990 and have five children. Dowry was paid. Soyasi told Senior Court Magistrate Abbyshine Michelo sitting with Magistrate Lewis Mumba at Kanyama Local Court that problems started when Tembo went to work in Kaoma in 2005 and was not seen for six months and even stopped calling her. She was shocked later to learn that her husband had married another woman. She explained that she followed him in Kaoma and she found that he had married, adding that the following day three other different women appeared who also claimed that Tembo was their husband. In defence, Tembo said that he married another woman in Kaoma because Soyasi told him that she did not want to have more children. Tembo said that when he married another woman, he informed Soyasi and that even when she fell pregnant she brought clothes for the baby.“I am surprised now that Soyasi refuses to make love to me, she moves out of the matrimonial bedroom every time I come,” said Tembo. Magistrate Michelo said that it was strange because Soyasi and Tembo did not stay together and that he admitted marrying another woman where he stayed for a year, thereby starving Soyasi sexually. He granted the couple divorce ordering Tembo to compensate Soyasi K5000 with initial payment of K600 followed by monthly instalments of K300 and to be paying child maintenance fee of K500 per month. Property acquired together would be shared equally.
