COSAFA has resolved to support the candidature of a sitting president for FIFA council membership and any attempts by FAZ to float Kalusha Bwalya is a sheer waste of time. Football Association of Zambia member Keagan Chipango has since appealed to FAZ which is meeting today to forget proposing Kalusha as it was a non-starter. “It is a waste of time for FAZ president Andrew Kamanga to table the issue of Kalusha Bwalya’s endorsement for the position of FIFA council member at today’s executive meeting when COSAFA has resolved to support the candidature of a sitting president,,”” said Chipango But Mufulira-based soccer administrator Damiano Mutale said Chipoango, Simataa Simataa and others should remove their hatred for Kalusha by influencing FAZ not to give the soccer legend the recommendation letter because other COSAFA members had already pledged to support him. Chipango however challenged those calling for the endorsement of Kalusha to produce the recommendation letters from other COSAFA members as claimed. “Football is not a one-man’s show for FAZ to divert from COSAFA decision just to fulfill Kalusha’s needs. Kalusha had his time at the helm of football administration and it was time he allowed others to work, “It is pointless for Kamanga to begin to present the matter before the executive committee. They are claiming the Malawi and Namibia FAs have said they will back Kalusha, where is the recommendation? ” he said. He argued that according to the FAZ constitution article 59.4, all member clubs, member associations, officials and players shall agree to comply fully with the statues, regulations, directives and decisions of FIFA, CAF, COSAFA, National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) and National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) He said it was not fair for the Kalusha camp to force the current FAZ president to breach the constitution which they so much quoted during their reign. “Last year, the same FAZ announced that they were throwing their weight on Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al-Khalifa, president of the Asian Football Confederation whom CAF has endorsed in line with its core belief of unity of purpose. Al –Khalifa lost to Gianni Infantino. But why the change now? They should allow Kamanga to work independently,” he said. Chipango has advised the minister of Sports Moses Mawere not to interfere in the running of Football House. “The minister is quoted in the media saying the nation wants Kalusha to stand and hoped FAZ will respect that and endorse him. This is interference and Kamanga should not bulldoze his way to overturn the earlier decision by FAZ. I feel the minister should take a leaf from his predecessor Vincent Mwale who did not influence the decision of FAZ,” he said. Meanwhile, Mutale said the best thing that FAZ should do was to recommend Kalusha because he had support from other members. He said Kalusha had vast experience and was famous among other COSAFA members. “Simataa or others should let go of the hatred. No Zambian player has achieved what Kalusha has, and his influence internationally is incomparable. It is my trust that FAZ to recommend Kalusha,” he said. He said it was pointless for FAZ to back the candidature of an outsider when their own was capable of delivering.
