Keep clear of drainages, Mandevu residents told

PEOPLE of Mandevu in Lusaka have been warned against clogging the drainages that are being constructed by the Millennium Challenge Account in the area. The warning was issued by the area Member of Parliament Jean Kapata who said that people needed to take responsibility for the works that were being done for them as they were the main beneficiaries. She said destroying the drainages or turning them into dumping sites would be a huge loss for the entire country as Government and other stakeholders were spending colossal sums of money to construct the drainages each year. “These drainages are not for u as Government; they are for the people and it is for that reason that every person should take responsibility and make sure that they look after these works as if they were their own. “These drainages are for the benefit of the people of Mandevu and all the surrounding areas and it is therefore their responsibility to see to it that they are well looked after,’’ she said. And Ms. Kapata called on the police to arrest anyone found vandalizing the property and bring them to book. She said the law enforcers should be on high alert and ensure that any person caught destroying the drainages were arrested without fail. ‘‘I am also calling on the police to ensure that all culprits of vandalism are brought to book and punished accordingly,” she said. She said a lot of money was spent on the drainages and residents should be responsible enough to ensure that they were not tampered with.-Millennium Radio 90.5FM
