THE Patriotic Front (PF) is the party embedded in my heart and I will remain a loyal member of the governing party and will continue to execute my duties as Roan member of Parliament, Chishimba Kambwili has said. Mr Kambwili who was yesterday fired by President Edgar Lungu from his position as Information and Broadcasting services Minister said although he had not been formerly informed of his dismissal, he could only thank the Head of State for having given him the opportunity to serve in his government. “I would like to first and foremost thank God for his favour. I would also like to thank His Excellency the President, Edgar Lungu for according me the opportunity to serve in his government. It was a real pleasure being part of his team. “I remain a loyal member of the Patriotic Front, the party that is embedded in my heart. I will continue to execute my duties as Roan member of Parliament and a member of the central committee,” Mr Kambwili said. Mr Kambwili said Preident Lungu enjoyed the prerogative of hiring and firing and was, therefore, the only person who knew the reason why he had fired him (Kambwili). Mr Kambwili said President Lungu had not yet communicated to him over his dismissal and that he was only reading about his firing on social media. He also said he had only heard the special assitant to the President for press and public relations Amos Chanda’s statement about his dismissal. Mr Kambwili said at a time he was being fired, he was on the Copperbelt and had not received official communication from the President over his dismissal. When asked if he felt that his dismissal was connected to the recent warning by President Lungu that he would fire all corrupt ministers, Mr Kambwili retorted: “Ask President Lungu why he has fired me. All I know is that I am fired and the President knows why he fired me.” Mr Kambwili said he could only thank President Lungu ‘‘for giving me the chance to serve in his Government’’. President Lungu yesterday fired Mr Kambwili but did not give any reasons for dismissing the outspoken Roan PF Member of Parliament and chief Government spokesperson. The Head of State has since appointed Patriotic Front (PF) Kalulushi Member of Parliament Kampamba Mulenga as the new Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services and Chief Government spokesperson. This is according to a statement issued to the Daily Nation by State House Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations. Mr Chanda said President Lungu has encouraged the new minister to serve the country diligently and with high levels of integrity as she takes up this important role. He said the Head of State was confident that the added attributes of youth and female gender would spur the minister to work even harder to promote the cause of women and youth in decision-making. Ms Mulenga previously served as district commissioner for Kalulushi before she entered active politics.
