GOVERNMENT has released K15, 000 for the repair of some bad stretches on the Solwezi-Kipushi road to make it passable during the rainy season.
North-Western Province minister Richard Kapita said the Zambia National Service (ZNS) had been engaged to work on the road and works were expected to start soon.
Mr Kapita said there was need to urgently work on the bad portions of the road for continued flow of traffic because the road was of economic importance to the nation.
“As a temporal measure to allow the flow of traffic and also ease the movement of people, some funds have been released to work on all the bad spots,” he said.
He was speaking yesterday when he conducted an on the spot check of the 120 kilometre road.
And Mr Kapita said the tarring of the road was expected to start after the rainy season as the contractor had already been identified.
“Let me also state here that immediately the rainy season comes to an end the contractor will be moving on site and start road works,” he said.
Earlier, Chief Musaka of the Lamba people of Mushindamo district appealed to Government to help address the challenges of water in his chiefdom.
Chief Musaka said most wells in the chiefdom had dried up and people were being forced to walk long distances in search of water.
