Gospel singer Mulilo talks music, food

By Terence Miselo

He is famously known for his cooking but his passion for music is what defines him. Shadreck Mulilo fondly called Pastor Mulilo is the singing chef that wants to create music to the glory of God and use his profession as a chef to promote healthy foods.

His latest album is called ‘Potter’ and contains eight inspiring and uplifting tracks that he insists reminds people about how powerful God’s role is in our lives.

“In ‘Potter’ I am simply glorifying God’s role in our lives as humans. We are nothing but clay in God’s hands therefore he is the Potter. He molds us into what he wants us to be,” Mulilo says in explaining his latest album which he says can be found in selected outlets in Lusaka.

“It is an album where I am encouraging people to hold on to God, to identify Him as the author of life,” Mulilo adds.

On this album, Mulilo has also worked with several artistes bringing out various beats and genres to suit a general demand. Some of the songs to look out for are ‘Bulldozer,’ ‘Ikatisha’ and ‘Chiuta’ to mention only a few.

The singer is so proud that he is able to strike a balance between his music and cooking.

“Both skills involve creativity,” he says.

“I am a very unique chef that wants to create different recipes. I want to insist on putting up recipes that promote good health. I notice that most people in Zambia don’t maintain health diets because of their bad eating habits.”

As a regular face on ZNBC TV2 Morning Live programme food segment, Mulilo says he reads a lot about health foods and will use his opportunity to write a book in order to help people fight health risks like B.P, obesity and more that come as a result of food.
