THE Patriotic Front (PF) candidate for the Mushindamo local government by-election, Peter Kampamba, has expressed confidence that he will scoop the seat in today’s by-election.
Mr Kampamba told the Daily Nation in an interview that he was assured of a resounding victory in Mushindamo because he was contesting on a popular party.
He said the PF had a ‘‘live manifesto’’ while other political parties’ manifestos were allegedly dead, adding that the PF’s goal was to take development to all the people of Mushindamo.
“People of Mushindamo should realize that the PF means business in these elections,” he said.
Mr Kampamba appealed to all political players to conduct issue-based campaigns ahead of the by-election.
“Politics of character assassination is long gone. We should always endeavour to practise and engage in issue-based campaigns,” he said.
He called on people of the district to vote for him just like they did in the August 11 general elections by giving a fresh five-year mandate to the PF.
Asked why the people of Mushindamo should vote for him, Mr Kampamba said because he was a local person with a heart to develop the area.
He said that he was aware of the challenges the newly created district was facing, hence the need to vote for him.
“I have a track record of civic leadership, it is not my first time to vie for such a position. So, Mushindamo people should trust me because I am coming into the council with experience and not experiments,” he said.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia has set November 17 as polling day for the Mushindamo and Kalumbila by-elections for council chairmen.
The Patriotic Front has fielded Mr Kampamba and Mr Slavin Bulaya in Mushindamo and Kalumbila respectively while Mr Lackson Mulumbi and Mr Olix Kakwata are contesting on the UPND ticket with Robert Ngobelo contesting the Kalumbila seat on PAC ticket.
