Lightning kills 2 in Zambezi

 

TWO members of the same family in Zambezi district have died after being struck by lightning, while one sustained serious injuries.

North-Western Commissioner of Police Auxinsio Daka confirmed the incident to the Daily Nation in an interview and identified the victims as Fulayi Kakungu, 37, and Peter Luvuwa, 9, both of Mushona village in Chief Ishima’s area.

Mr Daka said the incident happened on November 22 around 17:30 hours at Daitanga village when lightning struck the grass thatched house in which the deceased were.

“Yes, I can confirm that we recorded an incident in Zambezi where two members of the same family died on the spot after being struck by lightning. However, one victim did not die but just sustained injuries,” said Mr Daka.

He said the bodies of the deceased were deposited in Zambezi district hospital mortuary awaiting burial while the survivor is admitted in the same hospital and undergoing treatment.
